For: Caviar
Role: Product Design
Utilizing Apple’s Siri Shortcuts to help people order their favorite Caviar meals with just the sound of their voice
Project Overview
What is Caviar
Caviar is a food delivery platform that connects customers with their favorite local restaurants so they can order food for either delivery or takeout.
About the project
In 2018, Caviar had the unique opportunity to partner directly with Apple to develop a Siri Shortcut feature to be showcased during WWDC. As the lead product designer for Caviar’s consumer experience, I worked with a small team consisting of 2 iOS developers and a product manager to concept and launch the feature.
Diverge & Converge
The first thing the team did was to brainstorm without constraints and to envision what the ideal feature for our customers could look like.
“Can we use machine learning to recommend me the best options based on delivery time and popularity?”
“What about a magical recommendation engine where Caviar will order for me based on my diner profile?”
“How about letting me be able to easily track my orders?”
“What if Siri was my server and I can order item by item with my favorite restaurant?”
After some debate, The team decided to commit to these two core functionalities.
Define the user journey
With the functionality in mind, sketched out the user flow to help identify how the Siri Shortcut feature would exist within the existing Caviar app, as well as help visualize the scope of work necessary to launch the feature.
Iterate, iterate, iterate
With the scaffolding in place and a good understanding of how Siri Shortcuts would work, my job then was to begin explorations of how the customers would actually interact with the experience. This consisted on multiple rounds of explorations and reviews with product and engineering to help whittle and refine each screen.
